We try our best to consider environmental impact, cost and availability of materials and how well the material protects our products from damage. We often do in-house "drop test" to gauge how effectively a product is protected by the packaging if it were to be dropped on the ground. So it’s not straight forward to use eco-friendly package to reduce the impact of our packaging. We search for more sustainable packaging solutions in the process of implementing environmental protection.
To protect the product from wear and scratches during transportation, PP bags are a very common packaging method, but the plastic is not easily be recycled, so we use biodegradable non-woven materials & burlap & paper to replace plastic bags. Finding alternatives to Styrofoam for our packaging was our biggest challenge — particularly for large, heavy, fragile products that require significant protection from damage. Styrofoam is a very commonly used, lightweight material that can be formed into any shape or size. we try to reduce the use of Styrofoam and plastic bags as much as possible. After testing several options over several months and several failed "drop tests", we found paper formed into a honeycomb structure to be the best solution. We are using different type of honeycomb structure such as Honeycomb carton, Honeycomb cardboard, Honeycomb paper cover and Honeycomb paper bag... The honeycomb can be adapted to different shapes and sizes, and it provides enough cushioning to help prevent damage. We also use corrugated paper cover, plywood & MDF sheet, paper bags & paper box to replace Styrofoam. However, this option adds more weight or not good for protection especially for marble dinning table or coffee table. After continuous searching,we found out recycle form for heavy marble dinner table & coffee table. We also use different type of recycle package for product corner protection such as pulp corner sleeve, EPE Angle sleeve, Hard paper corner protectors...
Based on different shape & construction & material, we will carry on working with our suppliers to increase our understanding of the trade-offs involved in different packaging materials and find the best solutions possible for cost & weight & protection & function for our sustainability and Eco-Friendly Practices.
